All rev'd up (edited)

I've had an exciting and emotional weekend.

You know those friends who stick close, who you know will be forever friends, who go around the block of life with you over and again, whatever that might look like? One of those friends of mine was ordained as a priest in the CofE this weekend, and I couldn't be more thrilled.

I'm happy to say that this particular US theologian (see tweet right) is mistaken in his observations about women in the church!

My friend Rev Katie is a pastor with a leadership gift and a pastor's heart, bringing her unique passions and gifts to a church community in south London that is clearly benefitting.

I had the honour of attending church this morning and receiving communion from her, and a blessing on her first day as a priest, and it was a very special thing!

Between the CofE and my own church, theologically speaking we do a few things differently in our expression of the body of Christ (one of the Biblical metaphors for the church). But our worship of Jesus joins us together in a way that is profound and precious; as people and as covenant communities.

So congratulations to Rev Katie. I watch with excited anticipation to see what you will do and where you will go in this adventure, with your unique blend of gifts and skills, with God as your guide and your hope.

We sang one of Katie's favourite hymns today and the third verse describes well the journey she is on, as well as the path of every disciple of Jesus:

I heard the voice of Jesus say,

“I am this dark world's light.

Look unto me; your morn shall rise

and all your day be bright.”

I looked to Jesus, and I found

in him my star, my sun;

and in that light of life I’ll walk

till trav’ling days are done.
